March summary
- 31 days.
- 17 days running. 14 days off. (2 days off more than the last 31 day month, January.)
- Total of 108.23 km ran. (Over the 100 km target for each month this year.)
- Average of 6.37 km per run. (Pretty much same as last month.)
- Daily average of 3.49 km. (Down by 0.37km from last month.)
- Year so far: 325.7km. (On track to do 1000km and 1200km for the year.)
Notes
- First half the month was great. 63km chalked off before 16th of the month. Second half I ran just 45km. Frustrating. 108km for the month is alright — but it’s a missed opportunity to have had something north of 130km.
- The last ten days of March I ran on 4 of the available 10 days. Lacklustre.
- There were a couple of 3-days-without-running blocks in that second half too, bad bad bad.
- Overall the time of the runs were spread across the days, which was nice.
- Got a good few morning runs in. Not so sure my legs are quite with it first thing, but it’s nice to get out and get it in the bag at the start of the day.
- It was mainly runs along the canal and mainly runs out towards Bingley and back (14 of the 17 runs were that familiar tread).
- Nice Sunday morning 15km out towards Apperley Bridge earlier in the month: https://strava.app.link/X0lcIxebgSb
- Went to the gym. Once. Right at the tailend of the month. Because it was windy. Game back on.
- All three months of 2025 so far have ended up with totals between 108km and 109 km, without any design. Weird.
- The Brooks Calderas are on their last legs. Determined to eke as much out of them and my NB Hierros before getting another pair of decent road-to-trail shoes. (No idea what those next beauties will be…)
- Wasn’t the best with being in bed around 9pm, lights out 9:45pm. Most nights lights were out about 10pm though, so marginal gains.
- Did a lot more walking than usual.
- As I am writing this a couple of days into April, I have just had my six months diabetes check up. The aching in the top half of my legs might be down to being on statins and Metformin (the diabetes medication). (I didn’t have this pain when I was on statins only so something in the way the two meds play together?) On the nurse’s advice I am starting two weeks off the statins to see if that improves the pain. If it does improve it’s likely it’s the statins and I’ll probably need a different type of statins. If it doesn’t improve it’s likely to be the diabetes medication and I’ll need to try another form of that. Fun fun fun. Why am I noting that here? Because I need legs to help with running obvs. Diabetes health (and health overall) is generally good though.
Outcomes and goals for April
- At least 100km for a fourth straight month this year (and will be 6 months overall, I think? October was a dip below after September’s mega effort).
- At least 25km a week.
- A couple of weeks 35km total looks at least possible, but stretch goals.
- Got an organised race to do, the Brighouse 10k. Just looking to do it and enjoy it.
- Oh yeah, got a marathon in May. Should probably _train_ for that.
- Better weather means it’ll be alright for a good trails session earlier in the month.
- Maybe try and go for a run or three somewhere more exotic than just heading towards Bingley and back.
- Keep up the gym sessions / resistance training.
- Lose some more weight.
- Need to be a bit more “work can wait so I can go for a run”. I got bad at saying “I need me time” in the second half of March.
