15 minutes tops to look back on the previous seven days, which I tend to do most weeks. Sharing in case it’s useful to someone somewhere out there, somehow…
What did I enjoy?
Being able to walk normally on Wednesday after the marathon the Sunday before, “jog able”. About 21km of jogging/steady running over the week was an alright return. Was in London late in the week: Enjoyed two 5km runs from King’s Cross to Camden and back at the end of the week. Legs were feeling looser again.
Headed over to Manchester on Wednesday for Agile Manchester on Wednesday was fun. As a worker work falls into two pots: the projects you’re working on at that time (new business and ongoing) and then there’s the looking wider, the professional development. I want more of the latter at the moment. I went to a mixture of sessions, attending a couple to support mates (and learn from their wisdom obvs), one was a first timer which had an interesting slant (inclusive mindset in teams), one I had a deep professional curiosity in. Lots of little chats here and there. A lot of time with one person in particular. 15 minutes having an impromptu deep dive into something with someone. Good day. And Manchester was pretty.
Being in London on Friday gave me chance to catch up with a couple of long-time-no-see friends, half for a life catch up, half for a work gas.
Chats about Product managers as CEOs. (Sometimes I don’t think some people know what a CEO actually does.) Also had a chat about CEOs at start ups that eventually “move aside” to become heads of products. Is that a pattern?
Enjoyed the Mean Girls musical at the Savoy Theatre. Switched off the brain and go along with the fun.
Finally caught the The Face exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. Excellent. Strong memories of it in the earlier 90s giving a glimpse into what my mum called “city life”. Really preferred the 80s shots though. A lot of the 90s stuff felt… too manufactured, too processed? Stuff like the Spice Girls picture is where it’s at — love love love that spontaneity which provided such a great shot.
Walking round Covent Garden on Saturday with all the Crystal Palace fans about ahead of the FA Cup final made things busier than usual but also lively. Walking around central London is just good full stop.
Caught some Gardener’s World over the weekend, Monty Don being, well, the don in the garden. RHS show incoming in the news too. Ah if I could do it all again I would do something more horticultural. Or be a spy.
Books: No more progress on Berlin. Started reading Broad Band on the Kindle on the train. Dipped into Continuous Discovery Habits again. Flirted with Impact First but need to finish a book before starting another.
Looking forwards.
Tucci in Italy, the successor to two sublime seasons of Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy, starts.
The new Mission Impossible movie.
I really need to move the posts from the old blog to here (and set up redirects from there).
Leeds 10km on June 15th. An excuse, if I need one, to focus on 10km running. Definitely the most satisfying distance to run for me. Feels like I’ve done something afterwards, not just just enough.
Keep watching the stuff in the garden grow.
The boy’s A levels exams start this week. Hoping I’ve made enough room in my calendar so he feels supported without putting unintended pressure on.
Friday 6 June can’t come soon enough.
