Week note — week commencing Monday 12 October 2026
What is this?
A weekly note on what I've been up to. Last week's is here.

tldr
Past 1,000km for the year. Doorframes nearly bare. Beth Orton was wonderful. Wrote up where the NHS England work got to. Town dire.
Health and running
Four runs, 30.2km. The most in a week since mid-July, the week the TFL went. Tuesday's took the year past 1,000km. Year to date: 1,026.8km. 1,200km looks doable.
New gym block from Friday, mostly upper body, starting light.
I've been on statins and metformin for a while. Over the summer, while I had time out with the TFL injury, amlodipine and losartan were added for blood pressure. Third Wegovy dose on Friday. So tracking how I feel is vital at the moment. Feeling OK at the moment, fingers crossed.
Doorframes
Making use of some blocks of time without work (not as much as I'd hoped) to strip and sand the airlock doorframes. On to some filling, priming and undercoats now, then the topcoat.
Work-y
Published two posts: Getting all NHS appointments into the App: where we got to and Cosplay.
Had a management retro on how we ran the NHS England engagement went.
Doing bits and bobs. Having good chats about upcoming work too.
Out and about
Beth Orton at the Howard Assembly Room on Friday. Five star.
Street Fighter at the Everyman in Leeds on Saturday. Daft, very fun, didn't care.
Wrote about Foxbase Alpha turning 35.
Watched series 4 of Ghosts. Started the latest Slow Horses. A couple of Scottish cookbooks to read through.
Go, sports team!
- Grimsby Town: Northampton at home. Dire. Hope we're not spiralling. Pruti broke his leg.
- FC Porto: Lost 3–2 at Betis in the Champions League. No league game.
- Athletic Club Bilbao: 0–0 at Valencia.
- FC Dallas: Beat Seattle 1–0 to clinch a playoff place, drew 2–2 at Houston.
- Dallas Cowboys: Lost 23–13 at Green Bay. 2–4.
- Texas Longhorns: Lost 27–24 to Florida.
- Brooklyn Nets: Opening night on Wednesday.
Interestingness
- Tim Paul's marathon fundraiser for Medical Aid for Palestinians. Nearly at £1,500.
- Lou Downe: short-term thinking does not fix long-term problems.
- Matt Jukes: Manual Matt, more misadventures with AI. Builds a street art bot, then decides he'd rather pick the pictures himself.
- Burt's Bees lip balm, 2022 v now. Product design in one minute.
Coming up
Wicker at the cinema tonight (hot date, phwoar). Trip to Rochdale for the Town game on Tuesday, writing a match report on Wednesday. Car MOT. Eugene Onegin opera on Thursday. London for the weekend, Town at Gillingham on Saturday. And doorframes. Still.
