Weapons

The values. On a wall, in an onboarding deck. Be kind! Be curious! Be the change! Bring your whole self! Seek forgiveness not permission! Nobody argues. Then you say the thing that needed saying – and someone takes you aside afterwards.

Feedback. You should know how you're doing. It beats guessing. Then it's permission to be unkind. Who gets to give it, who gets given it.

Psychological safety. Say the hard thing, at no cost to you. Announced at the all-hands. Speak up, they say. They do, once.

Tone. Say it nice. Say it direct. Say it rude. Nice is what's expected of you. Rude is what arrives.

Resilience. Bouncing back, adapting, recovering. Who puts a ceiling on it? You're doing the work of three. But there's access to a mindfulness app for free.

Growth mindset. You can get better at anything. So the work isn't undoable. You're just not there yet.

Pragmatism. Move fast. Don't gold-plate. We'll come back to it. You never come back to it. Saying so is how you get called a blocker.

Ownership. Your name on it. Your call. Handed out when it goes wrong, taken back when it goes right.

The improvement plan. Someone's struggling. They deserve time to get things right, a bit of structure, a bit of focus. Everybody knows it's the start of the exit.

These are things that are done to you. Supposed tools to help you. They cross the line, used against you. Weapons.
