Week note — week commencing Monday 28 September 2026
What is this?
A weekly note on what I've been up to. Last week's is here.
tldr
Last day at NHS England, then straight to Cambridge for a conference and a Hepworth on the lawn. Four rehab runs, 9.1km short of 1,000km for the year. Town lose at home to Shrewsbury.
Finishing
Tuesday was my last day working with create/change at NHS England. The sheer number of extra hours we put in towards the end made it feel like a relegation battle. We was staying up heading into the last game of the season but just exhausted by the end. Maybe the effort went into the wrong things, too much appeasing "admin management". Longer note next week after some proper, structured reflection. (Closing off is important.)
By ten past six that evening Kristin and I were on a train to Cambridge.
The CV and LinkedIn got the attention first. I'm available for new work now, if you're looking. Here's my LinkedIn post about it.
Learning
I only did one day of Agile Cambridge, the Wednesday, at Churchill College. I came away with an idea for a post on the chipping and the craft, having seen the Barbara Hepworth sculpture on the college lawn.
I published notes from the morning of day 1. Good conference.
Friday evening was How People Work, Live!, Dan Hon's Zoom session. Hillary Hartley was the guest. She co-founded 18F and was Ontario's first Chief Digital and Data Officer. I published my notes from the session.
The boy got the outcome of his ADHD/autism assessment. It's good to know, rather than speculating it could be this, that or something else. It helps with preparedness.
Mending
Week one of the four week rehab plan. Four runs: 5.20km on Monday, 5.01km in Cambridge on Wednesday, 5.23km on Friday and 5.12km on Saturday. Each one between 31 and 34 minutes. 20.56km for the week.
Year to date: 990.9km. 9.1km to 1,000km.
The run note for September is up.
The recovery is hard going. Physio on Monday afternoon. She politely told me off because I hadn't been doing my "resistance" work. And she could tell.
Started Wegovy on Friday, trying to chip away at some fat.
Flu jab on Sunday afternoon. Book yours if you haven't.
Watching
Popped in on mum for half an hour on Saturday morning. Saw her and her husband Steve, got a tour of her new RV, had a cuppa.
Then on to Cleethorpes with Kristin for fish and chips lunch at Steels and the Town game.
Town lost 2-1 to Shrewsbury. Finn Cartwright's goal was one of the very few positives to take from a wretched performance against wretched opponents - who deserved their first away win in something like nine games. Two league defeats in a row after the unbeaten start. Tony's match report on Cod Almighty has the rest, what little there was.
Worked our way through the third series/season of og Ghosts. Superb.
Interestingness
Added a blogroll of interesting blogs to this website and worked out a way to bring in the past two weeks of posts. A handy one stop for me. It all runs off that page. A Google script slurps the feeds into a Google Sheet and creates the list of posts. It was nice trying to hack something together.

Go, sports team!
- Grimsby Town: Lost 2-1 at home to Shrewsbury. Two league defeats in a row after seven unbeaten. At Port Vale on Saturday.
- Athletic Club: International break. Back on 10 October at Rayo.
- FC Porto: International break.
- FC Dallas: No game. At Charlotte on Saturday night.
- Dallas Cowboys: Beat the Texans 34-30 in Houston. 2-2. Buccaneers at home on Thursday night.
- Brooklyn Nets: Off-season. Opening night is 21 October, at home to Charlotte.
- Fremantle Dockers: Season over. Lost the grand final to Brisbane by seven points.
- Texas Rangers: Season over.
Coming up
DIY ahoy this week, along with some snippets of work and chats about longer-term job roles. Some "in the trenches", others more floaty.
At Agile Yorkshire on Wednesday. NUX Leeds on Thursday, a Lego Serious Play session. Say hi if you're there too.
Weekend out and about. Digitalism in Manchester on Friday night and again at EartH London-way on Saturday. I can't be arsed with Bugged Out – or to be precise getting back from Drumsheds at the end. The Red River Rivalry on Saturday night too.
I won't be at Port Vale for the Town game. (Been to seven of the nine league games so far this season. This will be the third league game I'll have not been to; second away game missed.) Save the pennies and energy for... Gillingham. 🫠
1,000km for the year is two runs away. Be nice to nip past this after the last couple of months.
