2023 running: week 1, planning

With lots going on in life and training for a marathon and trying to get my fat down it takes a little planning — and being mindful things don’t always go to plan (work can be very reactive which can wobble my lunch run plans). Around March last year I

Run note for 2022

(With a bit of walking too.) Didn’t do a run note for 2021 but let’s go again. In short Start of the year aimed for 1,600km. A slow start, things picked up for a steady few months then hit by Covid and heel aggro in July and

Run note for July 2021

By the end of June I had run 71km and was looking forward to the coming weekend, despite being laden with a problem with the Achilles’ tendon in my right leg. I’d had a few days rest and hoped that would help me get going again. It didn’t

running

Run note for May and June 2021

In my previous run note, two months back on 1 May, I was looking forward to building my running back up again after a long time out with a stress fracture. How have I got on since? May started with some gradual progression building back up, a nice steady day

Run note for April 2021

Cycles

I am not doing much running at the moment. I am “recovering” from a stress fracture on my right tibia, which my doctor believes is just from doing a lot of running. My doctor and physio want to help me to get back to running regularly. As part of that

Run note for November 2020

In the middle of October I was told to lay off running, to lay off just about anything strenuous on my right leg for six weeks. The detail is in October’s run note. So November has been a waiting game, an observation game, a little trial game. In November

Run note for July 2020

During July I ran 162 kilometres. This brought my total for 2020 to 1138 kilometres. That’s an average of 162 kilometres every month so far, which is weird synchronicity with the distance I ran in July. I have a spreadsheet I keep track of this stuff which you can

Run note for June 2020

After running 218km in May at the start of June I’d run 718km in the year so far. I was aiming to do 300km in June. A bold target after being badly injured a couple of months back, but something that might give me a focus and then some

Run note for May 2020

Coming into the month I felt my leg was better following injury but not best. I’d notched up 94km of running in April, to take my annual total to 500km. Most of that running came in the last three weeks of the month. My leg felt solid enough to
